Receiving a wedding invitation is the best, true love, dancing, 90's music? Count me in! When I got the invitation to style this wedding, I was smitten. I had met the bride a year prior at her cousins wedding. Well, I guess you could say we hit it off. This lovely Bride offered to bring me up for the 4 hour drive North, where my husband and I stayed the night. It was a rainy morning on her families acreage in the country. But as the ladies got all dolled up and filled the room with smiles and excitement, the sun appeared!

All good styles, come with a lot of spray. A trick of the trade, is to layer different strengths of hairspray, throughout the style. Oh and that's me, very serious while hard at work. That's my game face!

Once you finish your hair, makeup and put on that gown, tears will begin to flow. This is the moment when everything comes together, and you feel like it's real. This fairy tale has just begun.

After years of courting, the excitement of engagement, the planning, the picking, and yes the pinning, the day is finally here. After getting your hair done and putting on that gorgeous gown, all that's left to do is say I do.

Have your cake and eat it too! Right until the end of the night, your hairstyle will stay in place. You can be sure that each bobby pin and curl is locked in place and ready for whatever the night brings.

By the end of the night, you'll still want to look and feel your best. Weather you're having your first dance of the night, a father daughter tear jerker, or getting your Gingham style on, you can trust the trestles will stay put.  *Exceptions include head-banging to "You shook me all night long" or other ACDC classics.

If there's one thing we know about weddings and brides, is that there's a lot of hugs going around. Be prepared to have everyone's hands and arms wrapped around you. Up styles can be a nice way to avoid the personal touches of each of your relatives in your hair do.

One of the best pieces of advice I was given before I got married, was remember that the day is about you. Try to smile and listen to all of your friends and families advice. But at the end of the day, it's about you. If you and your partner want something done a certain way, then do it. If you look forward 5 years and don't think anyone else will remember the things you did or didn't listen to, then go ahead, do it just for you. You will never regret it!

Weddings are a time to bring those you love together. Rain or shine, its going to be one of the most memorable days. We love working with groups of up to 10 women, so don't be shy to invite all your ladies to get their hair done on your big day. When else can you all be together, and look just fabulous?

Your mate is for life, that's a no brainer. But so are your memories. From that photo-surreal setting, to the perfectly paired bridesmaids dresses and ties, the people that join you on this day will be apart of your memories too. From the best man, flower girl, to your officiant, and your hairstylist too. Just like you did for your love story, make sure each glass slipper fits.

These are a selection of snapshots of the many many styles I've done over the past 8 years. There are way too many to count. From Grandmas, Sisters, Aunts, Nieces, Best friends, Moms, Cousins, Guests, Bridesmaids, Maids of Honour, the occasional clueless groomsman, and of course many many Brides.

I feel honoured to work with so many unique and memorable people. Each "getting ready" room that I walk into, has a certain vibe to it, some can be a little chaotic, yet brimming with love, some have a softness and gentle spirit, others are bubbly and vibrate with camaraderie, and there are ones that are quiet, cozy and calm. 

I happily adapt to each changing environment that I walk into, and always feel welcome and feel as though I'm apart of each persons experience on this very important day. I feel very grateful for all of the kindness, consideration, energy, excitement, and beauty that I've shared with each person.

Working behind the scenes in such an authentic and traditional part of this ceremony, while styling hair, I have happily been apart of the genuine friendship, love and happiness.

The stories I've heard, shared and witnessed, the time spent with each and every individual has been a beautiful way to see all the love there really is in this world.

Say Yes! I was caught totally unaware when my husband proposed to me. We were walking in the park, and it seemed like any other day, yet when he asked if I wanted some chocolate… I kindly said no thanks, I’m not hungry. Yet as we circled the park, looking at the fall leaves, squirrels, water and people walking by, he asked again, “Do you want some chocolate”, so I said… sure!

I was so surprised when I opened my golden wrapped chocolate bar from my hometown, with the writing inscribed on it “Sheila, Will you Marry Me? Love Zach”.

He got down on one knee, and the rest… as they say, is history!
